I am working on a service project with two of my classmates Tyler Young and Jacob Ackerman. We are visiting an assisted living facility in our community called Woodland Terrace once a week, and from there we complete any tasks they need help completing and also are in the process of making intergenerational videos for the elderly in the community. We came to this project primarily because we wanted to help the community and we observed that there is a need for help in the Woodland Terrace community and also a disconnect between the elderly and the youth of today. We believe it is important for students of today to learn lessons from the elderly and to also care about the older people in the community and we feel we are helping accomplish both of those things.
What we hope to accomplish with this project is: making intergenerational videos, holding a senior prom in the spring, writing letters to the elderly during holidays, and helping with housekeeping things at the facility every once in a while. We hope that with the videos we can help the elderly convey life lessons to the youth of today, as well as have videos to share with the family of the person who the video is about.
